LAHORE:

A day after being called out by the information minister of Punjab for operating outside his legal remits, Government Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider seemingly in a bid to do away with any miss giving thanked Chief Minister of Punjab for giving out compensation to the flood victims, a move that he bizarrely saw as a consequence of his effort.

A day earlier, it surfaced that Governor Punjab had written a letter to the Punjab requesting expeditious rehabilitation work, asking government to take steps to intercept disease outbreak, ensure rescue operation preparedness and for administrative machinery to be put on high alert in his area of Jehlum and Chakwal.

This promptly drew the ire of the Punjab Government that reminded the government of his constitutional domain. Information Minister Azma regretting Governor's ignorance about his role in the province, in a presser had said the Punjab government had already initiated relief activities in flood-affected areas and that Punjab Government does not need his advice, and that he should keep his opinion between him and his party or his party led government

Information Minister, seemingly ignorant of the governor's constitutional authority, said that he should stick to his constitutional role. To add insult to the injury, she mocked the governor for using such events for photo ops.

Later the same day, Punjab government relief package for one million for flood affectees of Hafizabad and Pindi Bhattian. It was not readily clear if this relief package would apply to effectess elsewhere or not.

Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider, instead of asserting his position of the governor of the province, chose to bury the hatched by the thanking Chief Minister for doling out relief package to the flood victims, which he termed as a consequence of his letter. Governor of Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan thanked Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for providing 1 million rupees per family to the flood victims of Hafizabad and Pindi Bhattian. The Governor of Punjab, while thanking the Chief Minister, expressed hope that Chakwal and Jhelum would also be declared disaster-hit soon, and measures would be taken to restore the lives of the people there and compensate for the losses caused by the flood.

Considering the Chief Minister's busy schedule in the province, as the Governor, good work should be appreciated, and any shortcomings due to the Chief Minister's engagements should be highlighted, but it is not appropriate to give it a political color. The Governor of Punjab believes that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, following in her father's footsteps, is always busy serving the people of Punjab. Governor Sardar Saleem Haider and Chief Minister of Punjab are on the same page for the development and prosperity of the province.
