KARACHI:

The bodies of four fishermen, who had gone missing after their fishing launch capsized due to strong winds and high waves near Gwadar, have been recovered from the open sea, raising the death toll from the incident to five. One fisherman had survived the accident.

One of the deceased was Ayub, whose body was recovered on Saturday. His funeral prayers were offered on Sunday afternoon, followed by burial in a local cemetery. His son, Zeeshan, also perished in the accident. His body was shifted from Gwadar to Karachi late Sunday night.

The other three fishermen who lost their lives belonged to Machhar Colony in Karachi. Their bodies have also been dispatched from Gwadar and are expected to arrive in the city soon.

According to Kamal Shah, media coordinator for the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum (PFF), six fishermen were aboard the boat. Only one survived. Ayub's funeral was attended by local residents, political and social leaders, and members of the fishing community.

Speaking to the media, PFF Chairman Mehran Ali Shah said, "Fishermen are the backbone of our coastal economy, risking their lives at sea to feed their families. When they can't go out to sea, they face hunger, poverty, and neglect."
