KARACHI:

Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police recovered a three-year-old girl, Rehana, who was abducted from Shah Nawaz Bhutto Colony on July 23. Police also arrested a suspect, who turned out to be a close relative of the child, in connection with the kidnapping.

According to a spokesperson for the SSP District Central, the suspect confessed to abducting Rehana in an attempt to extort ransom from her parents.

The suspect reportedly told investigators that he intended to use the ransom money to secure bail for his brother, who is currently imprisoned following an arrest by Manghopir police.

Officials reported that the recovery operation was carried out with "extreme sensitivity and professionalism" in order to ensure the child's safety and minimise the risk of harm.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police expect further developments as inquiries continue.

Rehana, who lives with her family in Shah Nawaz Bhutto Colony, was reunited with her parents shortly after the rescue.
