The National Assembly Standing Committee on Housing and Works expressed serious concern on Thursday over the performance of the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA), particularly with regard to delayed payments for land acquisition, built-up properties, and other issues affecting FGEHA housing projects.
The meeting, chaired by MNA Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri, decided to form a sub-committee to address the challenges facing the authority. The sub-committee will be convened by MNA Anjum Aqeel Khan and includes MNAs Seema Mohiud Din Jamali, Ibrar Ahmad, and Mehboob Shah as members.
Earlier, the committee confirmed the minutes of its previous meeting held on May 2 and reviewed the implementation status of earlier recommendations.
The committee also approved the Pakistan Infrastructure Development and Assets Management Authority Bill, 2024, with certain amendments and reservations. Members emphasised the need to safeguard the rights of PWD employees and ensure their proper adjustment under the new structure.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Pakistan Housing Authority Foundation (PHA-F) briefed the committee on the organisation's mandate, structure, staffing, and progress on ongoing housing schemes. He explained that PHA-F operates as a self-sustaining implementation arm of the Ministry of Housing and Works, providing affordable housing solutions across the country without relying on government grants.
