Troy Ave is facing allegations of staging a fake robbery and shooting, according to sources cited by TMZ.
The controversy follows a viral Instagram post by celebrity chef Geoff Cole, who claimed the rapper protected him during an attempted robbery.
Cole shared surveillance footage appearing to show a man sneaking up on them, with Troy Ave allegedly drawing a gun and firing at the suspect. “This the 2nd time but it WON’T be a 3rd! s/o 2 my BROTHER Ave for Holding it Down in a situation where most woulda RAN or FOLDED,” Cole wrote in the caption.
He added, “Ima keep giving artists OPPORTUNITIES & PLATFORMS, Ima Keep Gettin MONEY And the ONLY thing I’m doing different now, is taking this SHOW ON THE ROAD.”
The clip gained major attention, with some praising Troy Ave’s actions while others accused the pair of orchestrating the scenario for online visibility. One comment read, “Y’all believe anything on here great promotion for that song tho.”
TMZ has since reported that sources close to the situation confirmed the incident was fabricated. Allegedly, no shots were fired, and no robbery took place. San Diego police supported this narrative, stating they received no calls related to the event, nor have they issued any statements addressing the footage.
As of now, neither Troy Ave nor Geoff Cole has publicly responded to the growing criticism or the confirmation of the incident being staged.
