
CM Health Vigilance Squads have been established for monitoring government hospitals across Punjab.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif issued directives during a meeting to take action within 24 hours on the monitoring and reporting regarding the hospitals.
Three squads will begin working soon as a pilot project. They will include doctors, pharmacists, biomedical engineers, budget account officers and data experts.
The squads will check medicines, duty roster, clinical services, biomedical equipment and other matters in hospitals.
The chief minister ordered the preparation of a comprehensive checklist for the surveillance teams and approved the establishment of a monitoring directorate under the health and population department.
Separate units will be established in the directorate for district, tehsil hospitals and health centres. A surveillance room in the directorate will work round the clock.
It was also decided in the meeting to start gastrointestinal services in the government hospitals across the province. A gastrointestinology centre will be established in the Services Hospital.
A decision was taken to upgrade emergency wards and establish trauma centres in tehsil and district hospitals.
A special trauma centre will be established in the Faisal Masood Teaching Hospital in Sargodha. A cardiology ward will be established in the teaching hospital in Gujranwala, while four operation theatres will be functionalised with modern medical equipment in the Cardiology Institute of Multan.
Nurses who have obtained BSN degrees will get paid internships in government hospitals.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz directed the relevant authorities to continue announcements about the availability of free medicines in the hospitals and take strict action against officials who fail to follow the directive.
The meeting approved the establishment of cath labs in eight district hospitals. A deadline of December has been set for starting the procedure in the labs.
The chief minister also directed the authorities to provide furniture and other necessities in the residences of doctors posted in remote areas.
She sought a detailed report on the availability of ventilators in the hospitals.
She ordered the establishment of waiting areas for patients with shade, cold drinking water and fans.
She ordered early completion of the revamping and outsourcing of Maryam Nawaz Health Clinics.
The CM directed the health secretary to conduct re-interviews and appoint CEOs and medical superintendents in the government hospitals.
