After more than half a century in Hollywood, Harrison Ford has finally received his first Primetime Emmy nomination, at the age of 83. The veteran actor was recognized in the Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series category for his role in Apple TV+’s Shrinking. He also becomes the second-oldest nominee ever in the supporting actor in a comedy category, following Alan Arkin, who was 86 when he earned a nomination for his performance on Netflix’s ‘The Kominsky Method’ in 2020.

Ford plays Paul Rhoades, a therapist grappling with Parkinson’s disease and his own mortality, in the series co-created by Jason Segel, Bill Lawrence, and Brett Goldstein. Segel also stars as Jimmy Laird, a grieving therapist who starts breaking the rules with his patients. Ford’s understated, heartfelt performance as Jimmy’s colleague earned him overdue recognition from the TV Academy.

This is Shrinking’s strongest Emmy showing to date. Alongside Ford, co-stars Jason Segel, Jessica Williams, and Michael Urie also landed acting nominations. The series picked up additional nods for Outstanding Comedy Series, casting, and sound mixing.

Though best known for his iconic roles as Han Solo, Indiana Jones, and Rick Deckard, Ford has rarely been recognized with major acting awards. His only Oscar nomination came in 1986 for Witness, and he has received multiple honorary awards over the years, including a Palme d’Or at Cannes in 2023.

Should Ford win, it would mark his first individual award from the Emmys, a historic first for one of Hollywood’s most enduring stars. The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will air on September 14, hosted by comedian Nate Bargatze.
