In a recent video interview with Wired, Superman director James Gunn sparked discussion by acknowledging that Lois Lane currently has powers in the comics, and hinting that her powered-up version may not be off the table in the DC Universe.
“Like right now in the comics, you can go see her. She has superpowers in the comics as we speak,” Gunn said. “I think about it every time I see her with powers.”
Lois Lane’s superpowered iterations have appeared in multiple comic arcs. In All-Star Superman, she briefly gains powers for a day.
In the Superwoman (2016) series, Lois absorbs Superman’s dying energy and takes on the Superwoman mantle.
Rachel Brosnahan, who portrays Lois Lane in Gunn’s upcoming Superman reboot, also responded enthusiastically during the interview.
“Tell DC! Tell James Gunn! I’d like to fly,” she joked, encouraging fans to push for Lois’s evolution on screen.
While no official plans have been announced, Gunn’s remarks suggest the creative team is open to drawing inspiration from those storylines, especially as the new DCU continues to expand and reimagine its core characters.
