An eight-year-old boy was beaten to death allegedly by his stepmother in the Katha area of Kot Najibullah on Tuesday.
The suspect, who first thrashed and then struck the victim's head with sticks, had been taken into custody.
Victim Rehan Anser was the son of Anser Hussain. His biological parents had separated some time ago, and his father later remarried. The stepmother reportedly used to frequently subject the child to physical abuse.
The child's body was recovered from the family home and shifted to the trauma centre.
During the police investigation, Anser revealed that his son Rehan was allegedly beaten to death by his stepmother, Huma Bibi.
He alleged that Huma struck the child on the head with sticks after repeated abuse. Based on his complaint, a case was registered, and the accused was arrested.
The post-mortem report confirmed the child had suffered fatal head injuries consistent with the father's account. According to the complainant, the child was often abused in his absence.
After registering the case and arresting the suspect, the police handed over the body to the family for burial.
