Convener of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Regional Committee on Food, Shahid Imran, said Pakistan stands to gain substantial environmental and economic benefits from a nationwide shift to solar energy.
Speaking to a delegation of industrialists led by Zia Ur Rehman, he emphasised that with over 300 sunny days a year, Pakistan has immense potential to harness solar power on a large scale. "Transitioning to solar energy will significantly reduce our reliance on expensive imported fossil fuels, easing the burden on the national exchequer and helping narrow the trade deficit," he said.
He added that solar power offers a sustainable solution to Pakistan's chronic energy shortages, ensuring reliable electricity supply for households, businesses, and industries. He also noted that a strong solar strategy could uplift rural communities through off-grid solutions that support agriculture and improve living standards.
"With the right policy framework, financial incentives, and public-private partnerships, Pakistan can build a more resilient and sustainable energy economy," he said.
