LAHORE:

A TikToker, Kashif Zameer, has been taken into custody for brandishing firearms in videos and glorifying the gangster culture.

According to police sources, the arrest was made on the orders of Additional IG Sohail Zafar Chattha of the Crime Control Department (CCD). Officials alleged that the suspect was also contributing to Pakistan's negative image internationally. A team seized firearms from his possession and registered two FIRs against him at the CCD police station.

Zameer had previously made headlines for various legal troubles, including fraud and public misbehavior.

Police say investigations against the suspect are under way and his accomplices would also face legal proceedings.

The police warned other social media influencers against promoting illegal or harmful behaviour, stating that they would continue to monitor online platforms to protect public order and social values.

According to an FIR registered at the CCD III police station, a police team had received an information about the presence of suspects sitting in a car.

As the team approached to check them, they offered resistance and tried to flee. The police followed and intercepted them and upon checking found the suspects carrying automatic rifles and a handgun. They could not present any licence. An arrested suspect was identified as Zameer.

The social media figure had been arrested in 2021 on charges of duping Turkish mega-hit Ertugral Ghazi's hero Engin Altan into becoming the brand ambassador of his fake firm.
