The highly anticipated sequel to The Devil Wears Prada has officially started production, with Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci reprising their iconic roles.
Disney’s 20th Century Studios confirmed the news on Instagram, sharing a teaser featuring two devilish red pumps.
The film, based on Lauren Weisberger’s 2004 novel, follows the story of Andy Sachs (Hathaway), an aspiring journalist who lands a job at the fashion magazine Runway, under the reign of the demanding editor Miranda Priestly (Streep).
In addition to the returning cast, Kenneth Branagh has joined the sequel as the husband of Miranda Priestly. While plot details remain under wraps, it’s been reported that The Devil Wears Prada 2 will focus on Miranda’s career as she grapples with the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She will face off against Blunt’s character, her former assistant, who is now a top executive at a luxury group with valuable advertising dollars that Priestly needs.
Although Hathaway’s character, Andy Sachs, left Runway at the end of the first film to work at a newspaper, it’s unclear how she will factor into the sequel’s storyline. David Frankel and Aline Brosh McKenna, who directed and wrote the original film, are returning to helm the sequel.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled to hit theaters on May 1, 2026, marking the return of one of Hollywood’s most beloved fashion films.
