Charlize Theron slams Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez after their $50 million wedding in Venice

Charlize Theron took aim at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s reported $50 million wedding in Venice while hosting her charity event, the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project Block Party.

She quipped that she and her guests were “cool” despite not receiving an invite and added, “they suck”, signalling her disapproval of the extravaganza.

The actress contrasted the lavish celebrations with pressing global issues, warning that while the world “feels like it’s burning”, humanitarian crises—from immigration failures to threats to trans and queer rights and rising gender-based violence—require urgent attention.

High‑profile guests included Kim and Khloé Kardashian, Oprah Winfrey, Tom Brady and Orlando Bloom. Despite the opulence, protesters in Venice accused Bezos of avoiding tax, unfurling banners in St Mark’s Square.

Local activist group No Space for Bezos called the wedding exploitative and said the city’s mayor valued spectacle over resolving housing shortages and tourist overcrowding.

In response, Bezos and Sánchez reportedly made charitable donations to Venice ahead of the event and asked guests to direct gifts into local causes.
