Three take their own lives in Rawalpindi

A woman and her daughter allegedly ended their lives in the Dhamial area on Thursday.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the case was filed on the complaint of Muhammad Faisal, the brother of the woman, Tahira Bibi, who stated that she had been enduring regular physical and emotional abuse by her husband, Shabbir Akhtar.

The couple had four daughters and a son. Faisal revealed that he had once intervened during a domestic dispute, warning Shabbir to stop mistreating his sister after Tahira Bibi informed him that Shabbir had tortured her and her daughter Ansa. However, on June 18, another heated altercation took place.

Faisal visited the couple again. Once he reached the house, he witnessed the two engaged in a loud argument. Tahira and Ansa, expressing despair over the continued abuse. told him that they were considering ending their lives. Shortly afterward, both women ingested poisonous tablets. Despite being rushed to the hospital, they could not be saved. Before passing away at the hospital, Tahira Bibi gave a declaration to the police, accusing Shabbir of the abuse. The police confirmed that a case had been registered, and raids were underway to arrest the accused.

In a separate case, a young man committed suicide by shooting himself in the office of the Airport Housing Society within the limits of the Airport Police Station. The deceased identified as Waseem, a resident of Swat, worked as a security supervisor in the housing society. The reason for his suicide has not yet been ascertained.
