A fire broke out in an electronics market building near Regal Chowk, Saddar on Monday.
The blaze erupted in a multi-storey commercial building located in a densely packed lane. The flames started on the ground, quickly spreading to the upper levels.
Teams from the KMC Fire Brigade and Rescue 1122 battled the flames for over two hours before bringing the situation under control.
Five fire tenders from KMC, two water bowsers, a snorkel, and a Rescue 1122 fire truck, along with an ambulance, rushed to the scene. Due to the narrow alleys and a lack of direct access to the interior of the building, firefighters launched the operation from the rear side. Heavy smoke and poor visibility complicated the operation, but firefighters managed to control the fire.
Electronic items stored in the shops were completely destroyed.
Chief Fire Officer Humayun Khan said that 80 per cent of fire incidents in the Saddar area are caused by short circuits due to haphazard electrical wiring. He added that the exact cause and damage would be determined after the cooling process.Despite the intensity of the blaze, no injuries were reported.
