A member of HYBE’s girl group KATSEYE, Lara, was falsely reported to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a fan dispute, despite being a confirmed US citizen. The situation began when a social media user on platform X claimed to have submitted a tip-off alleging Lara was in the US illegally.

The post, which coincided with intensified ICE raids across major American cities, quickly drew criticism for targeting an artist based on misinformation. ICE operations under the Trump administration have expanded recently, focusing on cities such as Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York.
With increased reports of masked agents, home raids, and cases of mistaken identity, the climate surrounding immigration enforcement remains tense.
Critics online called the action “disgusting” and condemned the fan responsible, urging others not to escalate disagreements to harmful extremes. Several fan accounts have already reported the offending post for harassment and misinformation.
Though HYBE has not issued a formal statement, support for Lara has surged, with fans reminding others of the responsibilities that come with online platforms and the real-world impact of false claims.
