
A man and his two sons were gunned down allegedly by their rivals at their residential property in the Darkali Syedan area early on Tuesday, police said.
Jatli police said that some armed assailants broke into the house of Mushtaq Shah around 3:30am and challenged the latter for taking revenge of the killing of Afzal Shah, armed with weapons, immediately opened indiscriminate fire. The firing left Mushtaq and his sons Rizwan Shah and Imran Shah critically injured.
The assailants fled the scene. The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to their injuries. The bodies were shifted for autopsies.
The police said that the motive behind the attack was an old enmity between the two sides.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi City Police Officer (CPO), Khalid Hamdani, took notice of the incident and sought a detailed report from the Saddar SP. He directed that the suspects be apprehended as soon as possible.
Saddar SP Nabeel Khokhar confirmed that Jatli police had initiated prompt action and taken two suspects into custody for questioning. He assured that all individuals involved in the crime would be arrested and brought to justice.
Additionally, Inspector General of Punjab Police, Dr Usman Anwar, also took notice of the incident, sought a report from the Rawalpindi RPO, and ordered the CPO to ensure the immediate arrest of those involved.
Meanwhile, the police registered a case against eight accused on the complaint of Ashfaq Shah, the son of deceased Mushtaq. The police also begun raids to arrest the remaining suspects while continuing the interrogation of the two detained individuals.
