
Former Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) minister and senator Abbas Khan Afridi passed away on Thursday after sustaining severe burn injuries in a gas leakage explosion at his residence in Azeem Bagh area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province's Kohat district.
Afridi, along with three others, was initially shifted to CMH Kohat, PTV reported.
Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later transferred to the Kharian Burn Center for further treatment. Despite efforts to save him, Afridi succumbed to his injuries.
Afridi was the brother of former MPA PPP Amjad Afridi and the son of former Senator Shamim Khan Afridi.
Family sources have confirmed that last rites for the late senator will be held at Babri Banda, Kohat, with further details to be announced later.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Afridi, offering prayers for the deceased's high ranks in the hereafter and for the strength of his family during this difficult time.
Senate Chairperson Syed Yousuf Raza Gillani also extended condolences recognising the significant contributions of the late senator to the nation.
Similarly, Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari shared his grief, recalling Afridi's commitment to serving the people. Leghari described Afridi as a dedicated figure who worked tirelessly for the public and national affairs.
