The ringleader of a gang involved in robbing overseas Pakistanis was killed along with an accomplice during a police encounter, while other members of the gang managed to escape on Chak Beli Road in the jurisdiction of Chauntra police station.
According to the police, the gang would impersonate police and law enforcement officials to carry out their crimes. The gang leader, Amjad Saeed, along with his accomplices, had recently committed a robbery in the Mandra area.
When police received information about the incident, they responded swiftly, prompting the accused to flee. During the pursuit, the fleeing accused opened fire on the police team. In the ensuing exchange of gunfire, gang leader Amjad Saeed and his accomplice Darwaiz were killed.
Senior police officers arrived at the scene following the incident and launched a manhunt to arrest the fleeing accused by setting up blockades.
A police spokesperson said that the gang had been involved in dozens of reported and unreported robberies targeting overseas Pakistanis in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and other cities. The gang members would conduct surveillance at airports and then follow their targets on highways, often using uniforms of police or other LEAs.
