A police sub-inspector was shot dead by unidentified assailants in the Wana area of South Waziristan tribal district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Friday.

The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Wana City Police Station, where Sub-Inspector Mehmood Khan was ambushed and fatally shot by unknown gunmen in the Deza Ghundai area. According to official sources, the officer was on routine patrol when the attackers opened indiscriminate fire, killing him on the spot.

The assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack. Following the incident, a heavy contingent of police rushed to the area and launched a search operation, but no arrests have been reported so far.

Local sources described Sub-Inspector Mehmood Khan as a dedicated and courageous officer who had recently been posted to Wana City Police Station due to his strong track record in maintaining law and order.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, a spokesperson for South Waziristan Police confirmed the incident and vowed that the officer's sacrifice would not go in vain.

"The entire police force is in mourning, but we are committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice," he said.
