A live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda is officially in development and scheduled to debut in cinemas on 26 March 2027.

While no casting has been formally announced, industry insider Daniel Richtman reports that Hunter Schafer is being considered for the role of Princess Zelda.

Schafer, best known for her portrayal of Jules Vaughn in HBO’s Euphoria, has drawn attention for her resemblance to the iconic character. Her performances in The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and Cuckoo further strengthen her candidacy.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in 2023, Schafer responded to fan casting online: “That would be so cool. I played that video game a bunch when I was a kid. That’s such a good game.”

While her casting remains speculative, voice actor Patricia Summersett, who plays Zelda in the video games, has also expressed interest in taking on the live-action role.

Directed by Wes Ball and produced by Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad, alongside Joe Hartwick Jr. via Oddball Entertainment, this adaptation is among the most anticipated upcoming video game films.
