Karachi to see 41°C heat over next three days: PMD

Temperatures in Karachi are expected to remain high over the next three days, ranging between 37°C and 41°C, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Thursday, warning of continued hot and dry conditions across most parts of Sindh.

According to the Met Office, the minimum temperature in the metropolis will hover between 29°C and 31°C during this period. Humidity levels are likely to increase by May 31, reaching up to 55 per cent in the evening, with winds blowing predominantly from the west and southwest.

The PMD noted that on Thursday, the temperature in Karachi rose to 38.5°C — an increase of 1.4°C compared to the previous day — despite a 28 per cent drop in humidity.

The hot spell is expected to continue on Friday, with the Early Warning Centre forecasting dry and “very hot” weather, and maximum temperatures potentially exceeding 41°C. Winds are also expected to be stronger than usual.

Meanwhile, light rain accompanied by dust and thunderstorms may occur in isolated areas of Badin and Tharparkar districts, the Met Office said. The highest temperature in the province on Thursday was recorded in Mohenjo-daro, where the mercury soared to 48°C.
