MANSEHRA:

A woman and a minor girl were brutally murdered, allegedly in the name of honour, within the jurisdiction of Phallra police in Mansehra district, police officials said.

The woman had married of her own free will in 2021, following a legal court procedure, a fact that appears to have sparked the violent attack. The double homicide has deeply shocked the local community.

A case has been registered following a complaint filed by the deceased woman's mother-in-law.

The police handed over the bodies to the heirs after post-mortem examinations.

The Mansehra District Police Officer (DPO) confirmed that special police teams have been constituted and a comprehensive search operation is underway to locate and arrest those responsible for the killings.

Authorities have vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice swiftly.

The incident has drawn widespread condemnation from local rights groups and activists who call for stronger measures to combat honour-based violence and ensure the safety and dignity of women in the region.

Cases of honour killing are frequently reported in the country.
