The Peshawar High Court has halted any action against more than 150 employees of the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Law Department whose appointments were canceled following the recommendations of an inquiry committee set up by the Chief Secretary. The court has also summoned a detailed response from the provincial government.
A two-member bench comprising Justice Naeem Anwar and Justice Khurshid Iqbal heard the joint writ petition filed by 163 individuals, including lead petitioner Waqas Akbar. Representing the petitioners, Advocates Khalid Rehman and Muhammad Ghazanfar Ali informed the court that their clients had applied for various positions in the Law, Parliamentary Affairs, and Human Rights Department, including computer operators, junior clerks, drivers, peons, watchmen, and sweepers.
Written tests were conducted for the positions of computer operator and junior clerk, while interviews were held for Class-IV positions, all of which the petitioners successfully cleared. After interviews, the selection committee recommended their appointments purely on merit. Appointment letters were subsequently issued on February 12, 2021, and the employees were posted to various districts across the province.
