Two senior members of Mexico City Mayor Clara Brugada’s team were killed in a targeted attack in a central part of the capital, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed on Tuesday.

Speaking during her daily press conference, President Sheinbaum said those believed to be responsible were riding a motorcycle at the time of the assault.

“It is a deplorable incident, and we are going to give all the support that the mayor may need,” she stated, condemning the violence.

The victims have been identified as Ximena Guzmán, Mayor Brugada’s private secretary, and José Muñoz, a political adviser.

In a statement shared by Mayor Brugada on social media platform X, the Mexico City government vowed swift justice: “There will be no impunity. Those responsible will be arrested and must face justice.”

Authorities have launched an investigation into the killings, which come amid heightened concerns over political violence in the run-up to Mexico’s general elections.
