The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday issued a weather advisory warning of hailstorms, strong winds, and heavy rain in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas, urging residents to take necessary precautions.

According to the advisory released in the afternoon, stormy winds and rainfall are expected in the southern districts of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P). The PMD has predicted that Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby areas may experience severe windstorms in the next two to three hours.

The advisory also highlighted the risk of thunderstorms and strong winds in parts of both South and North Waziristan, as well as in Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, Karak, Hangu, Kurram, and Kohat districts of K-P.

In addition, central districts of the province, including Peshawar, Khyber, Nowshera, Charsadda, Swabi, and Mardan, have been placed under alert for possible storms and rainfall.

Citizens have been advised to exercise caution, particularly in northern K-P districts such as Haripur, Abbottabad, and Mansehra, as well as in the Galiyat region, where strong winds are also likely.

The weather alert extends to parts of Punjab and Azad Kashmir, with the PMD warning of potential thunderstorms in Attock, Mianwali, Talagang, Chakwal, Murree, and the Kashmir region. Residents in these areas and their surroundings have been urged to stay indoors during the storm activity and take necessary safety measures.

Most regions of the country have been in the grip of an intense heatwave for the past four days, with temperatures in several cities soaring above 40°C, making the arrival of storms a potentially disruptive weather event.
