The SHC has ordered the FIA to pay the full cost of air ticket to a student who was unjustifiably offloaded from an international flight at the Jinnah International Airport.
The order was issued during proceedings on a petition filed by Muhammad Farhan, who had approached the court after being arbitrarily offloaded from a flight to Japan, despite holding a valid visit visa. Farhan's legal counsel argued that the action by immigration authorities lacked any legal basis and constituted a clear violation of the petitioner's rights. In compliance with a previous court order, the FIA director, senior immigration officials, and the additional attorney general appeared before the SHC bench. During the hearing, FIA representatives conceded that Farhan had been offloaded 'by mistake'.
The court took strong exception to the admission, remarking that preventing a passenger from boarding an international flight without cause was not a trivial oversight, but a serious procedural failure.
