Starc’s decision follows security concerns after a match in Dharamsala was abandoned due to a supposed floodlight failure.
The proximity of conflict areas prompted a swift evacuation of the stadium and immediate extraction of players in what Indian media falsely reported as a supposed sign of aggression by Pakistan.
Australian media reports that the 35-year-old fast bowler has informed the Capitals of his unavailability as he focuses on preparations for Australia’s ICC World Test Championship final against South Africa on June 11 at Lord’s.
While Australia’s Pat Cummins and Travis Head are expected to return, others remain uncertain.
England’s Buttler, currently with Rajasthan Royals, will exit after the group stage and will be replaced by Sri Lanka’s Kusal Mendis to prepare for England’s ODI series against the West Indies.
The BBC also reports that England all-rounders Jacob Bethell (Royal Challengers Bengaluru) and Will Jacks (Mumbai Indians) will likely leave the tournament early.
