Square Enix confirms Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link is cancelled due to long-term concerns.

Pop Culture & Art May 14, 2025

Square Enix has officially announced the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, its GPS-based action RPG originally planned for iOS and Android. First announced in April 2022, the game underwent a closed prototype test in January 2023. Originally slated for a 2024 launch, the game was delayed indefinitely in November last year.

In a statement released by the development team and shared by Gematsu on May 14, Square Enix expressed regret over the decision, offering apologies to fans who had been anticipating the game’s release. “Although we worked hard on developing and adjusting the game… we determined that it would be difficult for us to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time,” the company stated.

The developers also extended thanks to players who participated in the closed beta testing phases and supported the project during its early stages. The cancellation comes despite extensive development efforts aimed at creating a mobile experience tailored for long-term player engagement.

Despite the setback, Square Enix reaffirmed its commitment to the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Development on Kingdom Hearts IV remains ongoing. The company assured fans that the series remains a priority, stating, “We are hard at work on Kingdom Hearts IV, and hope you’ll continue to support the series as you keep an eye out for further updates.”

No new details or release timeline have been shared for Kingdom Hearts IV at this time.

Lols | 2 weeks ago | Reply KH fans who insult slander the pioneer fan based best seller game of Square Enix namely Final Fantasy 7 ARE nkt second but last class citizens. I have KH played em all baught the package on PS4 and have never been so bored out of my mind than that game. The ONLY reason i played KH was because of the Final Fantasy stuff in it apart from that not interested in lame fairy tale based loser themes. Seriously KH fans if you dont like FF get the F out of Square Enix bumhole
Rin | 3 weeks ago | Reply Meanwhile Final Fantasy games continue to underperform and Kingdom Hearts games that would do well now that won t happen. Rebirth underperformed and KH3 while mixed sold better and no console exclusivity contract but instead Part 3 of Final Fantasy 7 a trilogy that s underperformed will for sure release while Kingdom Hearts fans are treated like second class citizens. Kingdom Hearts 4 s reveal was able to generate hype after the mixed response of 3 but with no update or release in sight now this it warrants more concern with most now remembering how bad 3 was the Reminder DLC pricing if this series story ever ends and if the payoff is worth it that hurts sales for the future. It also became clear Nomura wanted to make his game Versus 13 and took it out on KH3 with his frustration. With the wait for individual games why continue if it s not worth it to fans plus rising prices Bandai Namco or Sega should partner with CyberConnect2 to make a D.Gray-Man game adapting the manga and anime as a Kingdom Hearts like but cel-shaded the KH series borrowed heavily from D.Gray-Man maybe make another anime season or reboot anime from TMS to hype the release.
