Apple Inc. is set to introduce an AI-powered battery management feature in iOS 19, aimed at extending iPhone battery life by learning and adapting to user behaviour, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The new system, part of the broader Apple Intelligence platform, will dynamically adjust energy consumption based on how users interact with their devices.

It will also feature a lock-screen indicator showing estimated charging time.

The update is expected to roll out across all iPhones compatible with iOS 19 this September.

This development forms part of Apple’s strategy to embed artificial intelligence more deeply into its core operating systems.

The upcoming iPhone 17, which will reportedly feature a thinner design and smaller battery, is said to be the primary motivation behind the innovation.

The AI enhancements aim to compensate for reduced physical battery capacity in the slimmer model.

Apple is leveraging user data and predictive algorithms to fine-tune power usage across apps and system functions. While the company declined to comment, sources indicate this move underscores Apple’s goal to remain competitive in the fast-evolving AI space, amid challenges catching up with rivals like OpenAI and Google.

The update also follows the delayed rollout of several Apple Intelligence features, including the next-generation Siri, which is still pending release.

In addition to battery improvements, iOS 19 will introduce a new user interface internally dubbed “Solarium,” and tighter integration between iPad and Mac devices.

Apple is expected to unveil the update at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) on 9 June, with a public release in the autumn.

The company is also developing an AI-powered Health app, code-named Mulberry, though it’s not slated for release until 2026.
