As per Deadline and other sources, Madonna has partnered with Netflix for a new limited series that will explore her life and career.
The global music icon is collaborating with acclaimed producer Shawn Levy, who has an exclusive overall deal with Netflix through his company 21 Laps. Both Madonna and Levy will executive produce the project, which is currently in the early stages of development. A representative for Netflix declined to comment on the series.
This upcoming biographical limited series is separate from the previously planned Madonna feature biopic at Universal, which was in development with actress Julia Garner cast to portray the Queen of Pop. The new series is still in its formative stages, with no clear details on which part of Madonna’s extensive career will be the focus. Although it's not confirmed yet, Garner remains a likely candidate to play Madonna, pending her availability.
The collaboration between Madonna and Levy marks a significant step in bringing her life story to the screen, a project she has been passionate about for years. Madonna has previously expressed a desire to share her incredible journey as an artist, musician, and dancer, and her determination to make her way in the world despite humble beginnings. In a 2020 statement, she said she wanted to convey the challenges and triumphs of her life.
Since leaving Michigan to pursue her dreams in New York with only $35, Madonna has become the best-selling female music artist in history, selling over 400 million records globally. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2008 and continues to influence pop culture with her outspoken advocacy for women’s rights.
