ISLAMABAD:

The newly appointed director-general of Civil Defence on Friday issued orders to strengthen coordination between the Civil Defence teams of the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) and provincial authorities in the backdrop of mounting border tensions between Pakistan and India.

Muhammad Ali Randhawa, who is the chairman of the Capital Development Authority and Islamabad Chief Commissioner, assumed the additional charge of CD DG and called for immediate planning and scheduling of training programmes for volunteers.

He issued the directives while chairing a meeting on Thursday night at the Civil Defence Headquarters in Islamabad. CDA Board members, the ICT Deputy Commissioner, CDA director generals, Additional Deputy Commissioner General (ADCG), Assistant Commissioners, the directors of the Disaster Management Authority (DMA) and Emergency & Disaster Management (E&DM), Civil Defence officers, and other relevant stakeholders attended the meeting.

During the meeting, the DG reviewed the emergency preparedness and response mechanisms of the department. A decision was taken to assess the capabilities of the existing volunteer teams and to identify additional requirements.
