Pakistan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Karachi Port Trust (KPT) confirmed on Friday that their official account on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) was hacked overnight.

In a statement, the Ministry of Economic Affairs's spokesperson clarified that any posts made during the breach should be considered unauthorised and not representative of the ministry's views or policies.

The following tweet was made from the account after it was hacked.

The incident comes two days after Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team issued a red alert in response to rising cyber threats following recent military tensions with India.

The advisory had warned of attempts to disrupt critical national networks and spread disinformation through deceptive messages, phishing schemes, and fabricated stories.

The ministry said efforts are underway to secure the compromised account and investigate the breach.

Tensions between India and Pakistan intensified following a deadly attack on April 22, 2025, in Pahalgam, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), which claimed the lives of 26 men as India promptly blamed Pakistani elements for the assault, despite presenting no evidence, a claim Pakistan strongly denied.

India continued by launching "Operation Sindoor" that targeted multiple locations in Pakistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), resulting in the death of 31 civilians, including women and children, and 71 injured.

In response, the Pakistan Army launched a retaliatory operation, downing five Indian fighter jets and one combat drone.

The military spokesperson confirmed that the aircraft included three Rafale jets, one MiG-29, one SU-series aircraft, and an Israeli-made Heron drone.

These were shot down over Bhatinda, Jammu, Akhnoor, Srinagar, and Avantipur, he maintained.

Later New Delhi began to deploy drones into Pakistani airspace. The Pakistan Army has reported intercepting and destroying 77 Israeli-made Herop drones that were launched by India to target civilian and military sites.
