Crackdown on businesses refusing e-payments
The Sindh government has decided to take provincewide action against restaurants, shopping malls, coffee shops, and biryani centers that refuse to accept payments via debit/credit cards.
The Sindh Consumer Protection Authority, under the Bureau of Supply Prices, issued notices to Clifton restaurants, including Karachi Broast, Frontier, Bethak, Nihari Inn, and Desi Dera, for violating the Sindh Consumer Protection Act 2014. Legal proceedings have also been initiated against the establishments .
Director General (DG) Zahid Hussain Shar stated that the Sindh government has taken notice of the issue under Section 23(4), and that legal action will be taken against this violation, while an inquiry has been launched to provide relief to consumers.
Assistant Director Mir Shahnawaz issued directives to the concerned businesses to immediately cease this violation, with restaurant owners instructed to appear, or send authorised representatives, to the authority's office to respond to the notice.
