CBS has announced the return of Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton in a new spinoff series set within the Yellowstone universe.

Tentatively titled Y: Marshals, the show is scheduled to premiere in spring 2026 as part of CBS's 2025-26 lineup. Grimes, who portrays Kayce, will be part of an elite team of U.S. Marshals, combining his cowboy and Navy SEAL skills to bring justice to the Montana range.

The plot details remain under wraps, but the series is expected to explore Kayce's new role with the U.S. Marshals, a natural progression following his involvement in the Yellowstone saga. The spinoff will also likely feature Kayce's wife, Monica (Kelsey Asbille), and their son, Tate. Y: Marshals marks one of seven new series that CBS has ordered for the upcoming season, continuing the expansion of the Yellowstone franchise.

Y: Marshals joins several other spinoffs currently in the works, including The Madison, which features Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox. Set in central Montana, The Madison follows a New York family’s emotional journey of grief and human connection. Meanwhile, there have been ongoing rumours about a potential spinoff focusing on Yellowstone's fan-favourite couple, Beth (Kelly Reilly) and Rip (Cole Hauser), although nothing has been confirmed yet.

As Yellowstone concluded its run in December 2024, fans of the series will be pleased to know that the Dutton family’s saga will continue with this new chapter. The finale saw Kayce sell the family’s ranch to Chief Thomas Rainwater, while also ensuring his family could remain on their land. Grimes had previously hinted at the possibility of a spinoff, noting the pressure to continue the story due to Yellowstone's massive success.

With Y: Marshals, the Yellowstone franchise expands its reach, giving fans even more drama and action as Grimes reprises his iconic role. The series is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, with Taylor Sheridan, John Linson, and others attached as executive producers.
