Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari has dismissed as fake a notification circulating on social media claiming an extension of school holidays in the province, Express News reported.
In an official statement issued on Wednesday, Bukhari clarified that no decision has been made regarding additional school closures and urged the public to disregard the fabricated document.
“The notification circulating about an extension in school holidays is fake. No such decision has been taken at this time,” she said. She added that any decision on extending holidays would be made based on the evolving situation and in consultation with relevant authorities.
The clarification followed confusion that sparked online after a fake notice began circulating in the wake of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's declaration of a state of emergency across the province on Wednesday.
Maryam had also ordered the closure of all educational institutions in Punjab for Wednesday, as a precautionary measure amid rising security concerns as Indian missile, air, and drone strikes during the night of May 6–7 targeted multiple locations across Punjab and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
The attacks caused the deaths of numerous civilians, including women and children, and inflicted damage on civilian infrastructure, including mosques and a hydropower facility.
Authorities have yet to announce whether educational institutions will remain closed beyond Wednesday, with decisions expected to follow ongoing assessments of the security situation.
