Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has warned that a military confrontation with India appears “inevitable” amid escalating regional tensions and signs of Indian aggression.

Speaking on Geo News' programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath on Tuesday, Asif said that briefings shared with the government indicate the possibility of Indian hostilities in the near future. “A confrontation could occur at any moment,” he said.

The defence minister strongly warned New Delhi against any attempts to seize Pakistani territory. “India will pay a heavy price for any strategy aimed at occupying even an inch of our land,” he stated.

The minister also issued a sharp rebuke over recent Indian moves to restrict Pakistan’s water supply, referencing India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty.

“If Indian leaders attempt to block our water, they will drown in it,” he said. “Should India build any structures to stop our rivers, we will destroy them.”

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited the headquarters of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) where he received a detailed briefing on the country’s security posture amid heightened tensions with India.

Accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, and the chiefs of Pakistan’s armed forces, the prime minister was briefed on the prevailing regional security environment.

"The briefing focused on preparedness against conventional threats in the light of India’s increasingly assertive posture along the eastern border," a statement from the PM Office said.
