Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to working closely with Iran for regional peace, stability, and development during a meeting with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi in Islamabad on Monday.

At the outset of the meeting, the PM expressed his condolences over the recent explosion in Bandar Abbas, which resulted in multiple casualties and injuries. He extended his regards to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and conveyed warm wishes for newly elected President Masoud Pezeshkian.

PM Shehbaz used the occasion to voice Pakistan’s concerns over rising tensions in South Asia, which he attributed to India's provocative actions following the Pahalgam incident.

He categorically rejected attempts to link Pakistan to the incident, calling such claims baseless and unsubstantiated. “Pakistan has offered an international, transparent, neutral, and credible investigation to determine the facts behind the Pahalgam attack,” he reiterated.

PM Shehbaz also criticised India’s decision to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, calling it an unacceptable provocation. “India’s weaponisation of the Indus Water Treaty is a red line for the people of Pakistan,” he warned.

In response, Foreign Minister Araghchi conveyed greetings from the Iranian leadership and reaffirmed Iran’s commitment to deepening its bilateral relations with Pakistan. He also expressed Iran’s willingness to play a constructive role in supporting peace and stability in South Asia.
