BUREWALA:

A suspect in the recent murder of a local resident was killed during a police encounter in Gaggo Mandi on Sunday.

The suspect, identified as Bilal alias Bilali, a resident of 183-EB, was wanted by police in several serious criminal cases.

Police said Bilal and his accomplice allegedly opened fire at Waris Shaheed Chowk, Gaggo Mandi, killing a man identified as Kashif Hans, a resident of 243-EB, and critically injuring another man named Mushtaq of 227-EB.

Local residents managed to overpower one of the attackers on the spot and informed the police.

SHO Hassan Aftab Kayani of Gaggo Mandi Police Station arrived at the scene, took the suspect into custody, and launched a pursuit of the second suspect.

During the chase, the fleeing suspects hid in a nearby maize field and opened fire on the police. In the ensuing exchange of fire, Bilal alias Bilali was fatally shot, while his accomplice, Rab Nawaz of 187-EB, managed to escape.

According to the victim's family, seven assailants were involved in the attack, and a case has been registered against all of them.

A separate FIR regarding the police encounter has also been filed on behalf of SHO Hassan Aftab Kayani. The motive behind the murder is believed to be an old enmity.

Police confirmed that Bilal alias Bilali had a long criminal history and was wanted in multiple cases.

Earlier, three armed suspects reportedly attempted a robbery near the Gaggo Mandi police station.

When the victims resisted, the robbers opened fire, killing a man and injuring another. Citizens caught one of the robbers on the spot, while two others fled.

As they escaped, the suspects shot and injured another civilian while snatching a motorcycle near 193-EB. Police arrived promptly, forcing the suspects to abandon the motorcycle and hide in a maize field, where another shootout took place.

During the exchange, one of the fleeing suspects—identified as Bilal Yaqub of 183-EB—was killed, while the other escaped.

Police stated that Bilal was a hardened criminal and had recently killed a man during a robbery in Ali Town, Burewala.
