Four killed, several injured as lightning strikes in south Punjab
At least four people were killed and several others injured after lightning strikes during thunderstorms in South Punjab, Express News reported.
According to a spokesperson for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the fatalities occurred in Rajanpur and Bahawalpur districts. The lightning accompanied heavy rain and thunder across the region.
Director General PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, contacted deputy commissioners of the affected districts and directed them to ensure the injured receive the best possible medical care.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of lives. The families of the deceased will be provided financial assistance,” Kathia said. “Natural disasters can only be tackled through joint efforts and cooperation.”
He urged the public to take precautionary measures during adverse weather conditions. “People should stay in safe places and avoid remaining under open skies during storms,” the DG advised.
The PDMA continues to monitor the situation and coordinate with local authorities to ensure timely response and relief efforts.
