The Constitutional Bench (CB) of the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday granted bail to Sahir Hassan, son of TV artiste Sajid Hassan, against a surety bond of Rs1 million in a marijuana possession case linked to Amir Mustafa murder case and the main suspect Armughan Qureshi.
The Constitutional Bench took up the matter after it was deemed to fall within its jurisdiction by a larger bench of the SHC. Sahir Hassan had been in judicial custody for over two months before the CB's decision.
The defence counsel argued before the CB that the accused had been incarcerated without conviction and had cooperated fully with the investigation.
After considering the arguments, the court granted him bail.
Sahir Hassan is accused of possessing around 557 grams of marijuana. He was earlier remanded to judicial custody, and an interim challan was submitted last month by the investigating officer in the court of Judicial Magistrate Shahzad Khawaja at the Karachi Central Jail Judicial Complex.
After the submission of the challan, the court provided case documents to the accused and transferred the matter to the relevant sessions court for further proceedings.
Separately, the District and Sessions Judge South has granted a five-day physical remand of the accused, Armughan, to the Cybercrime Wing in a case related to operating an illegal call centre. The hearing took place in a Karachi courtroom, where Armaghan was presented via video link.
FIA Cybercrime officials requested the physical remand, stating that the suspect is accused of running an illegal call centre and transferring cryptocurrency.
