Three killed for 'honour' in Chichwatni

Couple murdered over love marriage, case registered against victim's brothers

A couple was killed in the name of honour in Chichawatni and a 22-year-old girl was murdered by her brother in village R-109-7 of Chichawatni.

A couple who had a marriage of choice, Farhan Ahmed Gujjar and his wife, Shahzadi, was shot dead in the name of honor in village 111/7-R within the limit of Saddar police station. The deceased Farhan Ahmed belonged to Daska, who had married Shahzadi of choice about five months ago despite the opposition of the community.

The couple had shifted from Daska to Chichawatni due to constant threats and opposition. They had come to the village to meet their relatives.

Shahzadi's brother Zulfiqar and his accomplice Aryan Iqbal chased them and opened fire outside the house. Farhan Ahmed was hit by 12 bullets while Shahzadi also suffered multiple bullet wounds and died on the spot.

Police reached the spot and shifted the bodies to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Chichawatni. After the postmortem, bodies were handed over to the heirs.

DPO Sahiwal Rana Tahir Rehman Khan took notice of the incident and sought a report.

A case has been registered against the Shahzadi's brother Zulfiqar and his accomplice Aryan Iqbal and a special team has been formed. Police have assured to arrest the accused soon and punish them severely according to the law.

Meanwhile, a 22-year-old girl Mehwish was murdered in the name of honor in a suburb village R-109/7 of Chichawatni. The deceased's brothers killed her after a session of the local village council (Panchayat).

A Mehwish was strangled to death by her brothers Fazal, Abid and Rastadar Maqsood in the name of honor.

According to police sources, the deceased had left home a few days ago with a boy, who was later brought back after Panchayat decision. On returning home, her brothers and other relative allegedly killed Mehwish in the name of honor last night.

Police said that raids are being conducted to arrest the absconding accused.
