The advisory committee of the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) is going to hold a meeting on May 5 to review the situation of the availability of water in the country for Kharif crops.

The meeting will also review the status of the implementations of the decisions taken by the advisory committee at its last meeting on March 26. The meeting assumes a new significance in the wake of India's April 23 decision to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT).

According to an official statement with regard to the situation of water in rivers and reservoirs of the country as of May 1, the inflow at the River Indus at Tarbela remained 63,000 cusecs while the outflow was recorded at 52,100 cusecs.

The inflow at the River Kabul at Nowshera was 35,100 cusecs while the outflow was also 35,100 cusecs.

At Khyberabad Bridge both the inflow and the outflow remained 65,500 cusecs. The inflow at the River Jhelum at Mangla was recorded at 48,700 cusecs while the outflow remained 32,000 cusecs.

The inflow of the River Chenab at Marala was 27,600 cusecs while the outflow was 19,100 cusecs.

At Jinnah Barrage, the inflow was recorded at 91,100 cusecs while the outflow stood at 84,600 cusecs

At Chashma Barrage, the Inflow was 76,500 cusecs while the outflow was 76,000 cusecs; at Taunsa Barrage the inflow was recorded at 56,800 cusecs and outflow 47,900 cusecs.

At Guddu Barrage, the inflow was 40,100 cusecs and outflow was 40,100 cusecs; at Sukkur Barrage, the inflow was 35,200 cusecs and outflow, 9,800 cusecs; at Kotri Barrage the inflow remained 5,000 cusecs and outflow, 200 cusecs; at Trimmu Barrage, the inflow was 10,700 cusecs and outflow was zero cusecs while at Panjnad, the Inflow remained 5,100 cusecs with zero outflow.

At Tarbela Dam, whose minimum operating level is 1,402 feet and maximum conservation level is 1,550 feet, the current water level is 1,432.04 feet. The usable water storage as of May 1 was 0.560 million acre-feet.

At Mangla Dam, whose minimum operating level is 1,050 feet and maximum conservation level is 1,242 feet, the current water level is 1,132.70 feet. Usable water storage at the dam as of May 1 was1.095 million acre-feet.

At Chashma Dam, whose minimum operating level is 638.15 feet and maximum conservation level is 649 feet, the current water level is 643.80 feet. The usable water storage on Thursday was 0.107 million acre-feet

The document stated that the inflow and outflow data for the River Indus at Tarbela and Chashma, the River Kabul at Nowshera, and the River Jhelum at Mangla is based on a 24-hour average flow. "For all other locations, the data represents water flow as recorded at 6:00 am today," it said.
