The Pakistan Broadcasters Association (PBA) has suspended the airing of Indian songs on FM radio stations under its jurisdiction, amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following the April 22 attack on tourists in Pahalgam, located in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting endorsed the move in an official letter issued Thursday, lauding it as a “principled decision” taken in light of the rapidly evolving situation. “This patriotic gesture is highly appreciated and reflects the collective sentiment of the entire nation. It demonstrates a strong sense of national solidarity on behalf of the PBA,” the ministry stated.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar also praised the PBA’s decision, describing it as a “patriotic gesture” that upholds the dignity and sovereignty of the country.
In a letter addressed to PBA Secretary General Shakeel Masud, the minister reiterated the ministry’s appreciation for the action, stating, “This initiative reflects national unity and demonstrates PBA’s commitment to the core values of patriotism, particularly during these testing times.”
“I deeply appreciate this independent initiative by the PBA, which reinforces the nation’s resolve and sovereignty,” the minister wrote, adding that such efforts underscore the role of the media in promoting peace and unity.
He concluded by “acknowledging with pride” the efforts of all media stakeholders who continue to act in the national interest and support the government’s broader objectives of fostering unity, peace, and patriotism.
