KARACHI:

The seven-foot wide water pipeline rupture at the University of Karachi severely affected multiple blocks and residential areas.

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) took a full 24 hours to shut off the water supply of the pipeline that had ruptured on Tuesday morning.

This delayed response resulted in several university roads becoming submerged, and water even entered the Chemistry Department's laboratory, leading to its immediate closure. Millions of rupees worth of chemicals and equipment was wasted due to flooding. Moreover, around 15 faculties have been affected by the deluge.

KWSC stated that 200MGD water would not be supplied to the city.

Affected neighborhoods include DHA, Clifton, Mehmoodabad, Gulshan, Johar, Old City Area, PIB Colony, Nazimabad, Liaquatabad, Korangi, Landhi, Shah Faisal Colony, Malir, among others.

KWSC CEO Ahmad Ali Siddiqui visited Karachi University. He urged citizens to use water judiciously during this crisis.
