
Ordering the prioritisation of road projects, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that the implementation of by-laws to keep roadsides free from encroachments should be ensured.
Chairing a meeting of the communications and works department, the chief minister reviewed the 18.5km Lahore Ring Road Southern Loop project and sought a feasibility report from the relevant authorities for an expressway project to connect the Layyah-Bhakkar road to the motorway. She also discussed the Kharian-Rawalpindi Express Road project.
The chief minister directed the authorities concerned to lay uniform tuff tiles in cities and villages.
The provincial secretary for communications and works briefed Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on the road projects of each district.
He said on the occasion, "Construction, expansion and rehabilitation of 460 roads is in progress at a fast pace."
He added that construction of the Quaid-i-Azam Interchange to Wagah Border road had been completed, while the construction of a drain and wall was ongoing.
The chief minister was informed that the Multan-Vehari two-way road project had been approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) and the construction of an additional carriageway was under way.
