Residents of Karachi’s Ramswami area staged a violent protest late Sunday night into Monday morning, storming the K-Electric office near Garden Headquarters over a prolonged power outage.

The demonstrators pelted stones at the K-Electric's office and smashed the windows of two mini-trucks parked outside, Express News reported.

Some protesters also struck the vehicles with sticks. Loud chants against K-Electric and the Sindh government echoed through the area as frustrations mounted.

Residents said the power supply to their locality had been suspended since 7 AM Sunday, and despite repeated complaints, no action was taken.

With temperatures soaring, many complained of deteriorating conditions at home, particularly affecting children, the elderly, and the sick.

The outage also triggered a severe water shortage, exacerbating the residents’ woes.

Protesters accused K-Electric staff of dodging calls to their helpline and said no senior official was available at the office to address their grievances.

"We are being lied to continuously," a resident said.

"They claim the outage is due to cable faults, but no repairs have been made. If anyone falls seriously ill or worse, K-Electric will be held responsible, and we will lodge a formal case."

Police later arrived at the scene and assured the crowd that efforts were underway to restore power.

The residents dispersed after the assurance but warned they would return to protest again on Monday morning if the electricity was not restored.

K-Electric has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
