Security forces have thwarted a major infiltration attempt by a large group of terrorists along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in North Waziristan, killing 54 militants in a decisive engagement, the military's media wing said in a statement on Sunday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the movement of a group of Khwarij was detected during the nights of 25/26 and 26/27 April in the general area of Hassan Khel. The terrorists were attempting to infiltrate into Pakistani territory.
“Own troops effectively engaged and thwarted their attempt to infiltrate. As a result of precise and skillful engagement, all fifty four khawarij have been sent to hell,” the military said in a statement. A large cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives was recovered from the slain militants, it added.
“This is the highest ever number of khwarij killed by our Security Forces in a single engagement during the entire campaign against terrorism,” ISPR stated.
Intelligence reports revealed that the terrorists were acting “on behest of their ‘foreign masters’ to undertake high profile terrorist activities inside Pakistan.” The statement noted that such actions, “at a time when India is leveling baseless accusations against Pakistan, clearly implies on whose cues FAK is operating.”
“Such actions amount to treason and betrayal against the state and its citizens,” it added.
The military referred to the recent National Security Committee (NSC) meeting, which highlighted that “distracting Pakistan’s security forces from their focus on the war against terror seems to be the strategic intent of India to allow a breathing space to FAK, which is reeling from the onslaught of our Armed Forces’ resolute offensive against them.”
ISPR praised the troops' “exceptional professionalism, vigilance & preparedness” in preventing what it called a “potential catastrophe.”
The armed forces reiterated their resolve to safeguard the nation.
“The Security Forces of Pakistan remain resolute and unwavering in their commitment to defend the nation’s frontiers and to eradicate the menace of terrorism,” ISPR said. “Such bold and decisive actions further strengthen our collective resolve and underscore that Pakistan is winning the war against terrorism.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the security forces for their successful operation, describing it as a strong testament to Pakistan’s progress in the war against terrorism.
In an official statement, the PM commended the troops for their “remarkable professionalism and timely action,” highlighting their success in repelling an infiltration attempt by Fitna al Khwarij terrorists from across the Afghan border in the Hassan Khel area of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
“The entire nation stands firmly with our security forces in the fight against terrorism,” he said, reaffirming that Pakistan’s armed forces remain “resolute in defending the country’s borders and eradicating the scourge of terrorism.”
“These successful operations clearly demonstrate that Pakistan is winning the war against terrorism and securing significant victories against those who seek to destabilise the nation,” the PM added.
