Two sanitary workers die cleaning manhole

All four workers were reportedly employed by the Umerkot Municipal Committee

HYDERABAD:

Two sanitary workers lost their lives and two others fell unconscious while cleaning a manhole in the Munu Malhi locality of Umerkot district on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Raj Ashok Marvari and Sooraj Lonio.

The unconscious workers, Ravi Marvari and Chaman Marvari, were initially shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital. However, due to the lack of emergency medical care, they were referred to Hyderabad, where they are said to be in critical condition.

All four workers were reportedly employed by the Umerkot Municipal Committee. Sanitary workers are often seen entering manholes-filled with toxic carbon monoxide-without protective gear.
