The intelligence wing of the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested two police constables on charges of arms trafficking, officials confirmed to The Express Tribune.
According to sources, the arrests were made by the CTD's Arms Trafficking Monitoring Desk, which was established on the recommendation of the provincial police chief. The constables were taken into custody around 10 days ago while on duty near Tariq Road's Jheel Park.
Both the accused have been identified as constable Abdul Qadir Memon of Mithadar police station, and constable Owais, also known as Lamba and Boxer, of the Shaheen Force in district Keamari.
A huge quantity of government-issued and illegal arms and ammunition was recovered from the suspects. During interrogation, both reportedly made important disclosures regarding their involvement in the theft and sale of weapons.
Officials revealed that the two joined the police force in 2023, allegedly after paying hefty bribes to secure their positions.
